How close am I to homelessness?

I’m not just sharing this to get imaginary internet points - I want to be fully transparent, and self aware about how crazy what we’re doing really is. Fun way to start this email, ha.

The answer is, quite close to homelessness - with our current burn, we’ve optimistically got about 4 months left in the tank. This is good news for you, dear reader, as it means the next few emails will get increasingly more interesting.

So what are we doing about it?

Making the best dating app of all time. We haven’t done any marketing for 5 weeks (our longest hiatus in Mixer history). Here is how the app has evolved since then:

We’ve added snaps, personal profiles, group prompts, improved InstaMatch, custom icons for everything, made our bottom bar infinitely better, and sped up the app so it feels refreshing and exciting to use. Every pixel has been meticulously placed, and every user tap has been optimized through obsessive analysis.

Well, what does the best dating app of all time do differently?

Here’s our philosophy: Chemistry doesn’t exist. Implementing AI, creating the perfect algorithm, even having custom matchmakers - they’re all distractions.

Dating is inherently social - in fact, it’s the most social thing that we do as humans. Yet as we venture deeper and deeper into our phones, living out full and real lives in the digital world, we’re left with an empty feeling inside.

Existing dating apps doom users to having awkward, jaded conversations with strangers who blend into a sea of generic profiles. We can do better than that.

We’re finally making dating social. Now anyone can be on Love Island, or Love is Blind, or The Bachelor, or Too Hot To Handle - with their best friends to back them up.

What to expect in the next 2 weeks

We crank up the marketing jets . The old version of the app you saw in the images above garnered hundreds of thousands of views on social media, thousands of users, and somehow made MONEY!! 

That breaks my brain a bit to think about.. The concept is inherently viral, and gets users excited - and now we finally have the execution to match.

Let’s see just how high this thing can fly.

We know that

Dating is at the precipice of our culture - every day thousands and thousands of hours of content are made completely focused on dating. Millions of conversations are had talking about “your new boyfriend”, “the guy that hit on you at work”, or even why 2 celebrities broke up. It’s the most interesting thing our culture has.

As artificial intelligence makes life on earth incredible - robots producing an abundance of food through infinitely renewable solar power, robots working retail jobs, and manufacturing more goods than we can consume, humans will be left to deal with loneliness and boredom. Solving this is our 50 year play with Mixer.

Dating is an incredibly exciting and interesting space that is neglected and ignored by Silicon Valley. We’re going to own dating. We will never be an app for making friends, arranging hangouts, generic social content sharing, etc. - Mixer is about dating, dating, dating, dating, and dating.
