The Story Thus Far

2 Years Ago [January 2023]

Mixer started as a dating app exclusively for students at Western University, in Canada. A few friends and I had the idea while on a night out, so I spent 2 weeks coding a real app from scratch. It barely worked, and looked awful.

After making dozens of TikToks, one went viral and swarmed us with thousands of users all at once. The entire app exploded and crashed, nothing worked, and I got absolutely no sleep for a week straight fixing everything.

9 Months Ago [September 2024]

After graduating from University, I got a remote day job as a software engineer at a crypto data company, leaving nights free for Mixer. I moved into a 100 square foot office in Kingston, Ontario and slept on the floor for 3 months to save money.

Through this time Mixer evolved from an app exclusive to your university, to being the dating app where you and your friends swipe together. Like Love Island, but in your pocket.

3 Months Ago - Today [February 2025]

After chipping away in the background for the last couple years, I made the jump to Mixer full time. Since then, things have started exploding and it’s only just the beginning!

We’ve seen insane growth, user retention, and just can’t stop going viral on TikTok - people flock to the concept. The best part is that virality is baked right in to the concept - users sign up to Mixer with the intention of adding 1-3 friends.

3 Mixer Features That Users Love

InstaMatch

We’ve pushed the limits of how engaging a dating app can be as far as they possibly can go with InstaMatch. Since on Mixer when you match with someone, your whole group matches with their group, matching is a LOT less stressful and burdensome for users.

The other insanely cool thing about InstaMatch is that we give all new users one for free. That’s right, 10 seconds into signing up to Mixer you already have your first match 🤯.

iMessage Quality Chat

I spent 2 weeks losing my mind making our Chat page perfect, obsessing over every tiny detail. What sets us apart most is that users and their friends send from the right of the screen, and their matched group sends from the left side - as if they were sitting across the table from one another (something no other app does). We also have Chat Powerups users can buy with 🔥, unlocking cool features like disabling read receipts, seeing who likes who, etc.

Social Prompts

Just like how Hinge has prompts, Mixer does too- except instead of answering a prompt about yourself, you answer on behalf of your friend. This turns a chore into an insanely fun group activity, adding another level of depth to group profiles.

Here’s what on the horizon

• Sharing profiles outside of the app, to drive organic growth and virality

• Content creation focused features, like sharing chats and live streaming yourself using the app. We see dating as a vehicle for entertainment, and want to lean into that rather than shy away

• Ramping up marketing into summer

• Deep profile analytics to see who’s viewing your profile, and for how long, with actionable insights to improve.

• Continuing our mission of bringing people together.
